CRA CHAMPS JONES, WILLIAMS PEAKING AT RIGHT TIME TO
CHALLENGE FOR “LOUIE VERMEIL CLASSIC” AT CALISTOGA
AUGUST
23, 2008 --- Defending Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car
Champion Tony Jones and former titlist Rip Williams could be
peaking at the right time to challenge for victory in this
weekend’s “Louie Vermeil Classic” at Calistoga (Calif.)
Speedway.
Jones
returned to victory lane for the first time this season,
passing Williams on the 24th lap to lead the final seven
laps Saturday night to win the “30-lap Hot August 70s Night”
feature at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Williams finished
second behind Jones’ Alexander Racing machine, while Danny
Sheridan, Garrett Hansen and Mike Spencer rounded out the
“top-five.” Williams’ finish was his best so far since
returning to USAC/CRA competition July 4.
Spencer’s point lead now stands at 92 points over Hansen
going into this weekend’s “Louie Vermeil Classic.”
Ronnie
Day won the last USAC non-wing sprint race at Calistoga, in
1996. That’s the only previous appearance of USAC Sprint
cars at the storied track.
The
USAC Western Midgets are also part of this weekend’s
Calistoga racing program.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SPRINT CARS & FIREWORKS ON THE 4TH OF JULY AT
PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!
(JULY 1, 2008, PERRIS, CA) Don Kazarian's famous Perris
Auto Speedway will celebrate Independence Day on Friday,
July 4th, when the City of Perris presents "Vroom
and Boom" featuring the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars
presented by Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply in Budweiser
Firecracker 30 plus the California Lightning Sprint Cars. In
addition to the racing, the biggest and best fireworks show
and sky concert in Riverside County will light up the night
sky at intermission. Spectator gates will open two hours
earlier than normal at 3:00 PM and racing will begin at
7:00.
In an announcement that came late Monday afternoon, Jack
and Nadine Gardner have added $3,000.00 to the purse for
Friday's holiday show. An extra $1,000.00 will now go to the
winner of the main event with second place pocketing an
extra $300.00 and third place earning an additional $200.00
on top of the regular purse. The other $1,500.00 in "Gardner
Green" will go to the highest finishing car with a 360
engine.
"Thank you to Jack & Nadine Gardner," Don Kazarian said
on Monday. "The Gardner's have been dedicated to this sport
for decades and this is just another fine example of
everything they do for racing. I know the drivers and teams
thank them and we do, too."
Early arriving fans will find a lot to when they get to
the track on Friday. As always the competing cars will line
each side of the track entrance so fans can get an up close
look at them and take photos. The drivers will be there to
sign autographs, pose for photos and answer questions as
well.
As has been the case at every July 4th race at
the 12-year old speed plant, there will be games for kids
along with the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA drivers including a water
balloon toss, three-legged race, hot dog and watermelon
eating contests. A live band will be playing to entertain
the early arrivals as well.
On the track, the best show in Southern California
racing, the thrilling Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, will
wage dirt track war on the brightly lit half mile oval.
Friday's race will be the tenth of the season for the series
at The PAS and thus far, there have been six different
winners. Only Ventura's Cory Kruseman (3 wins) and
"Showtime" Danny Sheridan (2 wins) of Santa Maria have more
than one win this year. The latest winner was "Handsome"
Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach on June 21st.
The Lightning Sprint Cars will be appearing for the
second week in a row. Last Saturday, 2007 series champion
Shane Rosson scored his first 2008 PAS win in the main
event.
Friday's explosive holiday celebration will include
qualifying, ten lap heat races, a 12-lap B main event and
the Budweiser Firecracker 30 Main for the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA
Sprint Cars. The winged Lightning Sprints will contest heats
and a 20-lap main event. At intermission the giant fireworks
show and sky concert will evoke cheers and roars from the
large crowd. And, for the kids, Gardner Motorsports will be
giving away a free bicycle and Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply
will be giving away a $25.00 free gas card to one lucky fan
in the grandstands and one person in the pit area as well.

family fun are available now by calling (800) 595-4849 or

Cody Williams makes his first run at the PAS this week end.

Over all it was not a bad run for Cody for his first race at
the PAS, Cody has ran with the Ford Focus last year and has
run the 410 cc at other tracks, but this is his first run
with USAC/CRA. Cody said he will be running eight shows at
the PAS this year and see were it takes him from there. Cody
